ITEM OF THE WEEK

Weimar, Colours.

Very nice series of happyfun soulish grooves, very deep, rich progression of lo-fi sampling that you can wave about to, or relax to sitting in a cushiony chair. This is multipurpose music for multipurpose people.

This is basically how I feel about Chicago right now:

SUPPORT THE SCENE

We put the community in front of us and the Kulture Vultures behind us. It's easy to be a star in a solo band, but way harder to work together as a gang, that's a community that shines as an army murderin' everything we touch. The scene is thriving...are you gonna get jumped in or humped in? It's better to be a participant that a spectator.

Our dear friend Megan Plunkett of The Kingsboro Press sent us the ultimate new procrastinating site: This Is Sand.

Here is my modest contribution:

From their website:

thisissand.com is a website for play. It changes the pixels on the screen into digital sand that can be used as building material for cosmic landscapes, Clemens-style sand paintings, mandalas and so on.

This is a joint project of the designers Johanna Lundberg and Jenna Sutela with the Flash programmer Timo Koro. We wanted to create a playground of colours and sound for people to play with us in our sandbox - within the computer screen.

We just got the new ANP Quarterly in and I'm psyched, there's a big KAWS interview + more.

Also, I'm reading the new Dot Dot Dot 16 right now and the Cory Arcangel article about JPEGs called On Compression and is very nice. Very nice.

ITEM OF THE WEEK!

Lateral Hyetography's, Some Girlzzz CASSINGLE is definitely doing it for me. The CASSINGLE is great and I'm craving more more more. There's just something about the drums that makes me want to grab my cat, and a beer, and dance on the island in the kitchen.

It's a little late, but I just spotted this video of the lovely Alex Da Corte (who'll be starting his MFA at Yale this fall) on Cool Hunting.

I'm so jealous. Alex and I bonded during the madness that was Art Chicago/Next. Like any young gun, Alex had work in both shows. He also got me in to Miley Cyrus... has anyone seen the 3D concert? Fully "next level" as Marco says.

ITEM OF THE WEEK!

The Ray Pacino Ensemble is blowing my mind. This curious Swedish release "sounds like 2000s post-punk weirdos possessed by the spirits of a 1930s Scandinavian dancehall oompah band and some cracked 1960s folk troubadours." I haven't been this stoked about music in eons!!!!
