Three of my favorite places to find a soundtrack for web surfing:

1. Muxtape, an (brand new!) online application that allows you to upload 12-song mixtapes with a refreshingly simple interface and more features on the way
2. RadioLab, a "This-American-Life"-esque public radio program, but this time all the stories are about mind-blowing science!
3. UbuWeb Sound, free rare audio files of experimental sound artists, poetry, and outsider art projects

Hope everyone in New York can make it to the Dark Fair to hang out with Marco and Martine! Scroll down to the next post for all the info.

Chicago Public Library got a new website! It is so awesome. I was complaining about lugging around all my books I need to renew, then I went over to the new site and renewal was but a click away. I was so psyched on CPL that I filled out their online survey. I was a tad over-zealous. I wrote things like "I love the library." and "Long live social programs!" (It's all true though.) I went to the library today. I checked out The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and Unconventional Success: A Fundamental Approach to Personal Investment by David F. Swenson. RULING!

ROUND 3

Here are three things that are making my life awesome right now.

excerpt from an interview published in Textfield V

Stuart Bailey
...I might argue that an aspect of the modernism your publishing circumscribes is the very lack of any agenda or expectations, only a set of moral working principles, and that it's precisely this lack of presumption that breathes life into the work. Is it important to maintain a sense of unknowing, of making it up as you go along? Have you ever felt your work was becoming too predictable or out of breath?

Robin Kinross
Yes and more often recently. To do fresh work, as we're saying, you need to step back and pause. Then something different can happen. It's perhaps what distinguishes mere journalism or "journeyman work" from more substantial writing or production. As a writer, eventually you reach some point where the words just pour out without difficult, as fast as you can type them. To write for a living, which usually means writing journalism you need to reach this state. But this is dangerous, because of the risk that you start to 'run on empty'-repeat ideas, phrases, formulatons. Or you just become a machine for rehashing given material: putting pieces together out of quotes from people that you phone or meet.

Here are two things I have realized recently:

1. I have an almost infinite faith in the collective intelligence of online communities, meaning, I feel like I can find almost any piece of information I need on the WWW if I enter the right Google search terms.

2. I want to own two dogs that are the same breed and are a female and a male. I can't do this now because I have a small apartment and I want to own fairly large dogs. Someday.

I just had some of the Grolsch left over from our screening the other night and I am feeling it.

Today I bought stationary, read about Fischli/Weiss, and watched 'Mixtape' and 'Driftwood' by Nick Relph and Oliver Payne. I also discovered RSS feeds.

I hope everyone is enjoying this little heat wave we're having.
